Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling tends to be more short term (usually 12 sessions). You may be stuck in a negative thought pattern or anxiety which is preventing you from living your life fully. You may have a goal you’d like to achieve or want to focus on a particular aspect of your life or issue that you are struggling with and want to overcome.

Psychotherapy is more indepth and focuses on your early life experiences and how they inform and impact your life today.

  • Being an Integrative Psychotherapist simply means that I draw on many different schools of psychotherapy theory in my work and can adapt my approach to meet my clients needs. These include humanistic person-centred counselling, psychodynamic theory, existential therapy, transpersonal therapy and dream work.

  • I work with people over the age of 18, from different backgrounds and cultures and with many different challenging experiences. These experiences may include anxiety, low self esteem, feelings of being lost and alone, lack of meaning, aging, adverse childhood experiences, health anxieties, relationship challenges, neurodiversity, gender identity, boarding school experience, bereavement and other forms of loss.

  • There’s no hard and fast rule for how long therapy lasts for. I generally suggest booking in six sessions initially after which we can review how things are going and talk about what’s next. Some clients feel that this is enough, and others may continue with therapy for several months and sometimes years.

  • I see clients both online and in person, and either can work well. Online sessions are convenient and comfortable at home, while in-person sessions provide a neutral space and a clear boundary between therapy and daily life. Some people connect better face-to-face, others online. When choosing, consider whether you have a private space for online sessions, how you’ll transition out of a session, and whether travelling to in-person sessions would give you valuable time to shift into and out of therapy.
